Welcome to My Mental Heart, where we aim to promote, preserve and improve mental health on an international level through individual counselling, education and art. Educational and artistic digital content is available in Croatian and English, while individual counselling is available in Spanish as well!

What does it mean to be mentally healthy?

According to Galderisi et al. (2015):

Mental health is a dynamic state of internal equilibrium which enables individuals to use their abilities in harmony with universal values of society. Basic cognitive and social skills; ability to recognize, express and modulate one’s own emotions, as well as empathize with others; flexibility and ability to cope with adverse life events and function in social roles; and harmonious relationship between body and mind represent important components of mental health which contribute, to varying degrees, to the state of internal equilibrium.

Rather than emphasising positive experiences and positive functioning, this definition underlines how normal it is for people in good mental health to sometimes be sad, discontented, unhappy or even angry instead of constantly being joyful. Human beings living their lives to the fullest experience all of these emotions throughout their lifetime. Good mental health is not emotionally uniform.
